Bhaumavarmā
Bhaumavarmā · bhauma-varmā
Bhaumavarmā was a kshatriya who lived in the city of Ujjayinī. Sūta tells Śaunaka of him in the Pratisarga Parva of the Bhavishya Purāṇa, in the glory of the Madhyama Carita of the Śrī Durgā Saptaśatī.
He was given to hiṃsā and consumed liquor and meat. Because of his extreme hiṃsā and his adharma he was seized by terrible diseases and died while still young. But by chance he had once had the Caṇḍī recitation performed, and by the power of the puṇya of that one Caṇḍīpāṭha, even so low a pāpī did not go to naraka.
In his next birth the same being became Mahānanda, the renowned king of Magadha, devoted to rājanīti, with full memory of his previous birth.
