Bābara

Bābara

The Pratisarga Parva of the Bhavishya Purāṇa tells that the daitya Roshaṇa, sent by Bali, was born on earth and ruled at Dehalī for five years. His son was Bābara, who ruled for twenty years; the print adds in a bracket that some years were at Samarakanda and some in Bhārata. Bābara’s son was Homāyu. Sūta gives this to Śaunaka. Learning that the mleccharāja Bābara had broken and ruined the images of the devas, the brāhmaṇa Mukunda in grief offered his life as an āhuti into the fire.
