Tārā (Mahāśakti)
Tārā, “she who carries across”
Bhagavatī Tārā is named among the Mahāśaktis in the Madhyama Parva of the Bhavishya Purāṇa. Sūta teaches the brāhmaṇas the rite of Kālī and the other Mahāśaktis: one offers arcanā to Bhagavatī Durgā on a kumbha, performs the prāṇa-pratishṭhā of the mūrti, gives a hundred oblations of bilva leaves and bilva fruits, and gives gold as dakshiṇā. Then one offers arcanā separately to the images of Bhagavatī Kālikā and Tārā.
