Diśā-devīs

Diśā-devī · diśā devī, “the devīs of the directions”

The Diśā-devīs are the ten devīs of the directions. They are honoured in the Tithi-dāna, the gifts for each tithi, which Bhagavān Śrī Kṛshṇa teaches Mahārāja Yudhishṭhira.

The gift on Daśamī

On Daśamī one makes golden images of the ten Diśā-devīs and fills ten vessels with salt, jaggery, milk, nishpāva, sesame, curd, ghee, cow dung, rice and black gram. One devī is placed on each vessel. One does pūjā with cloth, flowers and the like, and gives them to a brāhmaṇa.

The phala

All the giver’s wishes are fulfilled. After death he is honoured in svarga, and after long happiness there he is born on earth in a high kula (family).
