Sāṃkhya Stotras to Vṛshākapi
Sāṃkhya Stotras to Vṛshākapi · sāṃkhya stotra, “the stotras of the Sāṃkhya teaching”
The Sāṃkhya stotras to Vṛshākapi are the stotras full of the Sāṃkhya śāstra with which Brahmā, with Dharmarāja and Citragupta, will praise Jagannātha Vṛshākapi at the Kshīrasāgara at the end of the Kali Yuga. The Pratisarga Parva of the Bhavishya Purāṇa tells it, in the words of Vyāsa to Manu, as what is yet to come. The text names the stotras but does not print them.
The setting
Vyāsa tells Manu that in the fourth caraṇa of Kali the span of humans will be twenty years, and the narakas beginning with Tāmisra will be overfull with those born in the karmabhūmi. The narakas will go to Dharmarāja and ask that they be restored to their natural form. Dharmarāja, with Citragupta, will go to Brahmā at the sandhyā of the Kali Yuga, and Parameshṭhī Pitāmaha will go with them to the Kshīrasāgara. There they will worship Jagannātha, Devādhideva Vṛshākapi, praise him with stotras full of the Sāṃkhya śāstra, and pray for protection.
Vṛshākapi’s answer
Vṛshākapi will say: “Devas, for the good of the worlds this Kaśyapa will take birth in Sambhala grāma, and there his name will be Vishṇuyaśā; his wife’s name will be Vishṇukīrti.” The Pratisarga Parva tells that Vishṇuyaśā will recite the works of Kṛshṇa-līlā and be thrown into prison by the wicked, and that from Vishṇukīrti the pūrṇa Bhagavān Nārāyaṇa will be born as Kalki on the kṛshṇa ashṭamī of Mārgaśīrsha, in the darkness of night. All the devas and grahas will praise him, and Bhagavān Kalki will tell them of the kalpas, the manvantaras, the avatāras and the glory of the eternal Rādhā-Kṛshṇa.
