Devas’ Stuti at the Kshīrasāgara

Kshīrasāgara Deva Stuti · kshīrasāgara-deva-stuti, “the devas’ praise at the Ocean of Milk”

The devas’ stuti at the Kshīrasāgara is the praise the devas will offer Hari at the Ocean of Milk, at the close of the age. The Pratisarga Parva of the Bhavishya Purāṇa tells it in Vyāsa‘s words, in the future tense, in the account of what follows Bhagavān Kalki.

The setting

The Pratisarga Parva tells that after Bhagavān Kalki has gone, the great daityas of Pātāla, led by Prahlāda, will mount their vāhanas and go roaring against the devas. The thirty-three devas with Indra will fight them for a divine year, but Śukrācārya will revive the slain daityas, and the weary devas will leave the battle and go to the Kshīrasāgara, where Hari himself abides.

The stuti

There the devas will praise him.

Hari’s answer

Through their stuti, for the good of the devas, Hari will make from his pūrvārdha a Haṃsa form, shining like the radiance of hundreds of suns, and by his tejas he will burn Prahlāda and the other chief daityas, and Śukrācārya. The defeated daityas will go down to Vitala loka, and the devas, protected by Mahādeva, will be free of fear and will crown the son of Vaivasvata on earth.
