Vijaya Dhūpa
Vijaya Dhūpa · vijaya-dhūpa, “the dhūpa of victory”
Grammar: masculine noun; a compound of vijaya (victory) and dhūpa (incense): “the dhūpa of victory”.
Meaning: the best dhūpa for the pūjā of Bhagavān Sūrya.
In the scriptures: the Brahma Parva of the Bhavishya Purāṇa tells that Mahādeva worships Sūrya in the form of the sky with jājī flowers and the Vijaya Dhūpa. It is a mixture of seven things prepared by Mahādeva himself: mokkapu tree, cillamaḍḍi, candana, agaru, śarkarā, karpūra and niḍumuste. Of flowers the best is jājī, of dhūpas the Vijaya Dhūpa, of gandhas kuṅkuma, of lepas rakta-candana, for the lamp ghee, and of naivedya laḍḍukas (Bhavishya Purāṇa, Brahma Parva, Chapter 68). It is offered with jāji flowers, sandal and naivedya in the rites of Sūrya (Brahma Parva, Chapters 83, 96–97).
