Vasundharā (daughter of Śvaphalka)

Vasundharā · vasu-dharā, “she who holds wealth”

Vasundharā was the daughter of Śvaphalka of the Vṛshṇi line, of the Yadu vaṃśa (dynasty), and the sister of Akrūra. She was beautiful, rich in youth, and delighted all beings. She married Viśrutāśva and became his chief queen (paṭṭa-mahishī). She is not Vasundharā Devī, the earth.

Her family

The Brahma Purāṇa gives her line in its account of the Yadu vaṃśa. Vṛshṇi had two sons, Śvaphalka and Citraka. Śvaphalka married Gāndinī, the daughter of the king of Kāśī; her father always gave her cows, and so her name became famous. In her was born Akrūra: learned, fond of guests, a great hero and a giver of much dakshiṇā. Besides Akrūra, Śvaphalka had the sons Upamadgu, Madgu, Mṛdura, Arimardana, Arikshepa, Upeksha, Arimejaya, Dharma, devoted to dharma, Gṛdhrabhoja, Andhaka, Āvāha and Prativāha, and one beautiful daughter, Vasundharā.

Vasundharā married Viśrutāśva and became his chief queen. She was rich in beauty and youth and delighted all beings.
