Tilānna

Tilānna · tila-anna, “food of sesame”

Grammar: neuter noun; a compound of tila (sesame) and anna (food).

Meaning: food of sesame.

In the scriptures: Sumantu Muni tells King Śatānīka that on Caturthī one takes up a vrata of fasting without food, offers tilānna to a brāhmaṇa, and eats only tilānna oneself. One who performs this for two years and completes the vrata pleases Vināyaka, who gives the fruit he desires.
