Sautrāmaṇi
Sautrāmaṇi · sautrāmaṇi, “the yajña of Sutrāman”
Grammar: feminine noun; from sutrāman, a name of Indra: “the yajña of Sutrāman”.
Meaning: a Havir-yajña of the Veda.
In the scriptures: the Bhavishya Purāṇa counts Sautrāmaṇi among the seven Havir-yajñas of the forty-eight saṃskāras, with Agnyādhāna, Agnihotra, Darśa and Paurṇamāsya, Cāturmāsya and Nirūḍha-paśubandhana. With the rest of the forty-eight it brings a brāhmaṇa to brahmatva (Bhavishya Purāṇa, Brahma Parva, Chapter 2). In the Uttara Parva it stands as a measure of fruit: the pūjā of Bhagavān Sūrya as Mātāpi or Lolārka in Śrāvaṇa gives the fruit of the Sautrāmaṇi yāga (Uttara Parva, Chapter 47).
