In the scriptures: the Uttara Parva of the Bhavishya Purāṇa tells that Viśvāmitra Maharshi made the śṛṅgāṭaka, the coconut, kodrava, kūshmāṇḍa, the camel, the sheep and others (Bhavishya Purāṇa, Uttara Parva, Chapter 130).
