Hrada
Hrada, “a deep water body”
Grammar: masculine noun.
Meaning: a deep water body.
In the scriptures: Sūta tells the brāhmaṇas one general rule for the pratishṭhā of the nalinī (a tank that has lotuses), the vāpī and the hrada. On the day before, a gold image of Bhagavān Varuṇa is made and given jalādhivāsa with the mantra āpo hi shṭhā, then pushpādhivāsa with one hundred lotus flowers. Facing east in the maṇḍala, one does pūjā on a kalaśa to Gaṇeśa, Varuṇa, Śaṅkara, Brahmā, Vishṇu and Sūrya. Ghee and pāyasa are offered to Varuṇa, one oblation each with the sruvā to the other devatās, and bali of pāyasa. The water is dedicated with a saṅkalpa, a yūpa is set up in the middle, and a cow and dakshiṇā are given. After the pūrṇāhuti, arghya is offered to Bhagavān Sūrya and one enters the house.
