Bhūta-gaṇa

Bhūta-gaṇa · bhūta-gaṇa, “the host of bhūtas”

Grammar: masculine noun, a compound of bhūta and gaṇa (host).

Meaning: the hosts of bhūtas.

In the scriptures: Brahmā addresses Bhagavān Rudra as Bhūteśa and Trilocana, the Īśvara of the bhūta-gaṇas. In the bali mantra of the rathayātrā of Bhagavān Sūrya, one prays that the devatās and the bhūta-gaṇas be satisfied (Bhavishya Purāṇa, Brahma Parva, Chapter 55). Sumantu Muni names eight jātis as devayonis: devas, dānavas, gandharvas, yakshas, rākshasas, pannagas, bhūta-gaṇas and vidyādharas. They dwell in the Vyoma, some with form and some without form (Brahma Parva, Chapter 125).
