Anduga

Anduga · anduga, “the anduga tree”

Grammar: a tree name, printed in Telugu as అందుగు.

Meaning: a tree from which a dhūpa for Bhagavān Sūrya is made.

In the scriptures: in the Jayā Saptamī vrata, the third pāraṇa has yāvana dhūpa from the anduga tree, among the materials dear to Bhagavān Sūrya (Bhavishya Purāṇa, Brahma Parva, Chapter 96). In the Aparājitā Saptamī vrata, the third pāraṇa again has dhūpa from the anduga tree (Bhavishya Purāṇa, Brahma Parva, Chapter 98). In his teaching on the unguents and incense for Sūrya’s pūjā, Brahmā names anduga, with ummetta, among the things that must not be used in Sūrya’s pūjā (Bhavishya Purāṇa, Brahma Parva, Chapter 115).
