Amṛta Dhūpa

Amṛta Dhūpa · amṛta-dhūpa, “the dhūpa called Amṛta”

Grammar: masculine noun; a compound of amṛta and dhūpa (incense).

Meaning: a dhūpa (incense) for the pūjā of Bhagavān Sūrya, made of six things in equal parts.

In the scriptures: in the Jayantī Saptamī vrata of Māgha, Brahmā gives the Amṛta dhūpa for the fourth pāraṇa, with red ganneru flowers, raktacandana and pāyasa as naivedya. It is agaru-candana, tuṅgamusta, yāvana, śuṇṭhi, pippalī and marica mixed in equal parts; the last three are called tryūshaṇa (Bhavishya Purāṇa, Brahma Parva, Chapter 97).
