Vaishṇavī Saṃhitā
Vaishṇavī Saṃhitā, “the Vaishṇava collection”
The Vaishṇavī Saṃhitā is a work that Vishṇusvāmī told. The Pratisarga Parva of the Bhavishya Purāṇa tells that he told it at the order of his guru, Caitanya Mahāprabhu.
How it came to be told
Sūta tells Śaunaka that after some time Vishṇusvāmī came to Śāntipurī. That brāhmaṇa bowed to Kṛshṇacaitanya, then nineteen years old, and asked which devatā in this brahmāṇḍa is honoured by all the devatās. Mahāprabhu answered that Mahādeva, who shows grace to his bhaktas, is honoured by all; Vishṇu, Rudra, Brahmā and the other devatās always do his pūjā. Vishṇu-bhaktas devoted to the worship of Śaṅkara gain, by the prasāda of Śiva, the highest Vaishṇavī bhakti, and one who is a Vaishṇava and does not worship Śaṅkara, the benefactor of the worlds, is not a true Vaishṇava.
Hearing this, Vishṇusvāmī, drawn by his qualities, became his disciple. Doing upāsanā of the Kṛshṇa-mantra, he became devoted to the worship of Śiva, and by his guru’s order he told the Vaishṇavī Saṃhitā.
