Sāmba Purāṇa

Sāmba Purāṇa, “the Purāṇa of Sāmba”

The Sāmba Purāṇa is named in the Brahma Parva of the Bhavishya Purāṇa among the books whose gift to Bhagavān Sūrya brings great fruit.

The gift of the book to Sūrya

Brahmā tells Dindi the acts done for Sūrya and their fruits. One who gives the Bhārata book for the service of Sūrya goes to Vaikuṇṭha; one who gives a Rāmāyaṇa book gains the fruit of a vājapeya and reaches Sūryaloka. The person who offers that Devadeva the Bhavishya Purāṇa or the Sāmba Purāṇa gains the fruits of the rājasūya and aśvamedha. He fulfils all his wishes and goes to Sūryaloka and stays there long; then he goes to Brahmaloka and stays there a hundred kalpas; and he is born on earth as a king.
