Mudgala Āśrama

Mudgala Āśrama is the hermitage (āśrama) of the ancient ṛshi Mudgala Maharshi, in the southern region of Bhāratavarsha. The Ānanda Rāmāyaṇa names it, in Chapter 17 of the Rājya Khaṇḍa, as the place where Agastya Maharshi gave two divine kāṅkaṇas (sacred bracelets) to the princes Kuśa and Lava.

The āśrama

The āśrama of Mudgala Maharshi is one of the ancient hermitages of Bhāratavarsha. Mudgala is an ancient ṛshi, and the Mudgala Purāṇa, which teaches about Gaṇapati, is linked with his line.

The gift of the kāṅkaṇas

The Rājya Khaṇḍa names the āśrama in the events of Chapter 17. There Agastya Maharshi gave two divine kāṅkaṇas to Kuśa and Lava, the sons of Rāma. Because Mudgala’s āśrama was the place of this gift, the old hermitage is tied to Rāma, the avatāra of the solar dynasty, and to his sons.
