Ekāmra (Tree)
Ekāmra · eka-āmra, “the single mango tree”
The Ekāmra is the single mango tree that stood, in a former kalpa, at the place of the Ekāmra-kshetra, the Śiva-kshetra of Utkala. From that lone tree the kshetra got its name. The Brahma Purāṇa tells this where Brahmā describes the kshetra to the munis.
The tree that named the kshetra
When the munis asked Brahmā, Lokeśvara Caturmukha, to tell them of Ekāmra-kshetra, he said: “Hear: I tell you of the puṇya-kshetra famed as Ekāmra, which takes away all pāpa, is supremely hard to reach, has a crore of liṅgas, is equal to Kāśī-kshetra, and has eight tīrthas.” Then he told how the name came: in a former kalpa there stood there a single mango tree, eka āmra, and hence the kshetra got its name.
