Pratishṭhānapura (Prayāga)

Pratishṭhānapura · pratishṭhāna-pura, “the city of the firm foundation”

Pratishṭhānapura is a city in Prayāga. The Pratisarga Parva of the Bhavishya Purāṇa tells that Māyāvidya ruled there and that Mahārāja Saṃvaraṇa came to it with the munis and settled it over five yojanas. This is not the Pratishṭhāna on the Godāvarī.

Its kings

Māyāvidya, a bhakta of the Devī, ruled 10,000 years at Pratishṭhānapura of Prayāga, and went to svarga.

On the trayodaśī of the kṛshṇa paksha of Bhādrapada, on a Friday, Mahārāja Saṃvaraṇa came with the munis to Pratishṭhānapura. Viśvakarmā built there a palace half a krośa high. Saṃvaraṇa settled the city, most beautiful and clean, over an area of five yojanas, or twenty krośas.
