Kauṇḍinyanagara is the city of King Mudgala, the kshatriya son of Bhīshmaka. The Uttara Parva of the Bhavishya Purāṇa tells that Yamarāja sent his dūtas to bring him there, as his life was finished. The dūtas went to Kauṇḍinyanagara but saw no sign of death in the king, for Yama‘s kiṅkaras cannot see those who have kept the vrata of the Narakārti-vināśinī Trayodaśī. Mudgala Muni tells this to Śrī Kṛshṇa at Dvārakā.
