Kṛtaka (son of Cyavana)
Kṛtaka
Cyavana has other meanings too: see all meanings of Cyavana.
Kṛtaka is the son of Cyavana. The Brahma Purāṇa names him in the line of Pūru, beside Devāpi, the brother of Śantanu, who became a muni and the upādhyāya of the devas: Kṛtaka, it says, was dear to him.
In the line of Pūru
In Chapter 13 the Sūta tells the munis of the line of Pūru. Bhīmasena‘s son was Pratīpa, and Pratīpa had three sons: Śantanu, Devāpi and Bāhlīka. After naming Bhīshma, the son of Śantanu, and the line of Bāhlīka, the Sūta says that Devāpi the muni became upādhyāya (teacher and priest) of the devas, and that Kṛtaka, the son of Cyavana, was dear to him. Then Śantanu, best of the Kauravas, became king.
