Vareṇya
Vareṇya, “the one worthy to be chosen”
The Pratisarga Parva of the Bhavishya Purāṇa tells that the brāhmaṇa Mukunda of Prayāga, born in the gotra of Śaṅkarācārya, offered his life into the fire, and that his twenty disciples followed the path of their guru. Vareṇya was one of those twenty disciples, and in the next birth he was the famous sant Agrabhuk, who stood in the mata (teaching) of Rāmānanda. Sūta tells this to Śaunaka.
