Vardhana

Vardhana, “the one who increases”

The Pratisarga Parva of the Bhavishya Purāṇa tells that the brāhmaṇa Mukunda of Prayāga, born in the gotra of Śaṅkarācārya, offered his life into the fire, and that his twenty disciples followed the path of their guru. Vardhana was one of those twenty disciples, and in the next birth he became renowned as Caraṇadāsa. He composed the work called Jñānamālā and became a follower of the path of Raidāsa. Sūta tells this to Śaunaka.
