Sārisṛkka

Sārisṛkka was the second of the four bird-sons of Mandapāla and Jaritā. The brothers were śāraṅgaka nestlings in the Khāṇḍava forest.

The fire in the Khāṇḍava forest

The Khāṇḍava forest burned, and Sārisṛkka and his brothers could not yet fly. They faced death in the fire. The youngest brother, Droṇa, spoke a brahma-stotra (a hymn of praise). This moved Agni to spare the nest. All four brothers lived.

The four are among the destined survivors of the Khāṇḍavadāha, the burning of the Khāṇḍava forest.
