Gurudatta
Gurudatta · guru-datta, “given by the guru”
Gurudatta lived in the city of Irikā. The Pratisarga Parva of the Bhavishya Purāṇa tells that when Devaguru Bṛhaspati produced his own aṃśa (portion) and appeared in a brāhmaṇa birth, he was born as Gurudatta’s son, named Ropaṇa. Ropaṇa showed the Brahma path and spread among the people the wearing of a garland strung with thread, the tilaka made with water, and japa of the mantra of Vāsudeva. Sūta tells this.
