Daksha, King of Śūdras
Daksha, “the skilful one”
Daksha is the king of the śūdras whom Brahmā brought forth from his feet when the earth was renewed after the great tempest of the Cākshusha manvantara. He shares his name with Daksha Prajāpati, but he is a different being.
Born from Brahmā’s feet
Sūta tells Śaunaka, in answer to how Bhagavān Hari descends in the yugas, that at Brahmā’s midday in the Cākshusha manvantara a great tempest arose, and the earth of seven dvīpas and the oceans became one water. When the earth had become dry land again, Brahmā brought forth the four kings of the varṇas: from his mouth Soma, king of dvijas; from his two arms Sūrya, king of kshatriyas; from his thighs Samudra, king of vaiśyas; and from his feet Daksha, king of śūdras, expert in the arts, doer of the works the śāstras ordain, maker of the excellent world. From Daksha the śūdras were established. The account is told on Triyugī and the Promise of Kali.
