Vijaya of Karnāṭa
Vijaya was the king of Karnāṭa, the southern kingdom. He is named in the Vivāha Khaṇḍa of the Ānanda Rāmāyaṇa, Chapter 3, as one of the kings who came to the svayaṃvara (a ceremony where a princess chooses her husband) of Sumatī at Vaṭapura.
At Sumatī’s svayaṃvara
Vijaya ruled Karnāṭa in the time of Rāma-rājya. Bhūrikīrti Mahārāja held the svayaṃvara of Sumatī at Vaṭapura. Vijaya was among the kings of the southern realms who were gathered there. The dādi Sunanda described these kings to Sumatī one by one. Sumatī passed Vijaya over with respect. She then placed her māla (garland) on Lava and chose him.
