Vasu (son of Svāyambhuva Manu)

Vasu

Vasu is one of the ten sons of Svāyambhuva Manu, the first Manu. He is not Vasu the son of Uttānapāda, nor Vasu the son of Sāvarṇi Manu.

When the munis ask Lomaharshaṇa to tell the manvantaras, the Sūta begins with the first, that of Svāyambhuva Manu. In his time the saptarshis were Marīci, Atri, Aṅgiras, Pulaha, Kratu, Pulastya and Vasishṭha, the sons of Brahmā, who dwell in the northern direction. The ten sons of Svāyambhuva were Āgnīdhra, Agnibāhu, Medhya, Medhātithi, Vasu, Jyotishmān, Dyutimān, Havya, Sabala and Putra. “This is the first manvantara.”
