Sudhanvan (son of Ahīnagu)

Sudhanvan · su-dhanvan, “he of the good bow”

Sudhanvan, also written Sudhanvā, is a king of the Ikshvāku line in the descent from Śrī Rāma. He was the son of Ahīnagu and the father of Śala. He is a different king from Sudhanvan the son of Vairāja Prajāpati.

Lomaharshaṇa the Sūta tells the munis the line of the Sun after Śrī Rāma. Rāma’s son was Kuśa, and from Kuśa the line ran through Atithi, Nishadha, Nala, Nabha, Puṇḍarīka, Kshemadhanvā and Devānīka to Ahīnagu. Ahīnagu’s son was Sudhanvā. His son was Śala; Śala’s son Ukya; Ukya’s son Vajranābha; and his son a second Nala. These, the Sūta says, are the kings of the line of Vivasvān, rich in tejas.
