Śukra (son of Uttama Manu)

Śukra

Śukra is one of the ten sons of Uttama, the third Manu. He is not Śukra, also called Uśanas and Kavi, the son of Bhṛgu and the guru of the daityas.

The Sūta Lomaharshaṇa tells the munis the manvantaras. The Manus, in order, are Svāyambhuva, Svārocisha, Uttama, Tāmasa and the rest. In the time of Uttama, the third manvantara, the ṛshis were the seven sons of Vasishṭha; the sons of Hiraṇyagarbha were the Ūrjas; and the devas were the Bhānus. The ten sons of Uttama were Isha, Ūrjas, Tanūrja, Madhu, Mādhava, Śuci, Śukra, Saha, Nabhasya and Nabha.
