Śibi, King of the Śibis

This Śibi was a king of the Śibi tribe. He fought on the side of the Pāṇḍavas in the war at Kurukṣetra. Droṇācārya killed him on the fifteenth day of the war, in the fighting around Droṇa’s last great attack.

He is not Śibi Auśīnara, the great ancestor of the Śibi line, who is known for his highest dāna (giving). This Śibi is a king of the tribe that comes from him.

Who he was and his line

The Śibis were a tribe who traced their line to the great king Śibi Auśīnara. The Mahābhārata tells of him as the most generous king of his age. The Śibi tribe took part in the war as allies of the Pāṇḍavas. They sent this king to fight under the command of Dhṛṣṭadyumna.

His death

Droṇācārya killed this Śibi in the Droṇa Parva, Chapter 155. This was in the battles that came before Droṇa’s last great attack on Day 15.
