Śambhu, Son of Rukmiṇī

Śambhu

Śambhu is one of the eight sons of Rukmiṇī, the queen of Śrī Kṛshṇa, named in the Anuśāsana Parva of the Mahābhārata. He is not Bhagavān Śiva, who is also called Śambhu.

Among the sons of Rukmiṇī

The Mahābhārata, Anuśāsana Parva, Chapter 14, tells that after Śambarāsura was destroyed through Pradyumna, Jāmbavatī saw the eight sons of Rukmiṇī: Cārudeshṇa, Sucāru, Cāruveśa, Yaśodhara, Cāruśravas, Cāruyaśas, Pradyumna and Śambhu. She herself had no child, and she went to Śrī Kṛshṇa and begged him for a son equal to himself.
