Śala, Son of Sāmyamani
Śala, the son of Sāmyamani, was a Kaurava warrior. Dhṛshṭadyumna, the commander of the Pāṇḍava army, killed him on the fourth day of the Kurukshetra war. The Bhīshma Parva names him in its running account of the battle, among the commanders who fell in the heavy fighting of day four.
Death on day four
On the fourth day of battle, Bhagadatta of Prāgjyotisha rode his war elephant Suprātīka and caused great damage among the Pāṇḍava forces. The Pāṇḍava commanders answered with strong attacks of their own. Dhṛshṭadyumna was the son of King Drupada. He was born from the sacred fire for the purpose of killing Droṇa, and he was the supreme commander of the Pāṇḍava forces. He fought Śala, son of Sāmyamani, and killed him on day four.
