Śakradeva of Kaliṅga
Śakradeva was a prince of the royal family of Kaliṅga. He was the son or a close relative of Bhānumanta, the king of Kaliṅga. He fought on the Kaurava side at Kurukṣetra. Bhīmasena killed him on the second day of the war.
The Kaliṅga battle on day two
Śakradeva came to Kurukṣetra with the Kaliṅga army and fought in support of Duryodhana. On the second day of the war, Bhīmasena made a fierce attack on the Kaliṅga forces. In this great fight, both King Bhānumanta and Śakradeva fell at Bhīma’s hands.
The loss of Bhānumanta and Śakradeva together destroyed the leadership of the Kaliṅga army in the field. Their forces were left without a leader and were broken on day two.
