Kampa
Kampa was a Yādava hero of the Bhārata age. The Mahābhārata names him in its last book, the Svargārohaṇa Parva. He is one of the great souls who returned to the Viśvedevas when their earthly karma (actions and their results) was used up. The Mahābhārata says little else about him.
A hero who returned to the Viśvedevas
Kampa is counted among the Yādava and allied great ones. Sauti tells their final destinies at the close of the epic. In the Svargārohaṇa Parva, Kampa is named among those who entered the Viśvedevas when their prārabdha-karma (the karma that gave this life) was spent. They were taken back into that group of devas. Niśaṭha, Vidūratha and the other heroes of the Vṛshṇi and allied houses are named with him.
The parva records only this last destination for Kampa. It places him among the great souls for whom the Viśvedevas were the aṃśī (the whole from which a portion comes). This follows the teaching of aṃśa and aṃśī (portion and whole) that the Mahābhārata gives at its close.
