Arishṭanemi is a Yādava of the Vṛshṇi line, a son of Citraka. Sūta tells the munis, in the Brahma Purāṇa, that Śvaphalka and Citraka were the sons of Vṛshṇi, and that Citraka had these sons: Pṛthu, Vipṛthu, Aśvagrīva, Aśvabāhu, Svapārśva, Gaveshaṇa, Arishṭanemi, Aśva, Sudharman, Subāhu and Bahubāhu; and two daughters, Śravishṭhā and Śravaṇā.

In the account of the Syamantaka the Purāṇa names Citraka’s sons again: Pṛthu, Vipṛthu, Aśvagrīva, Aśvabāhu, Supārśvaka, Gaveshaṇa, Arishṭanemi, Dharma, Dharmabhṛt, Subāhu and Bahubāhu, with the daughters Śravishṭhā and Śravaṇā.
