Ādi (wife of Vasudeva)
Ādi
Ādi is one of the wives of Vasudeva Ānakadundubhi, the son of Śūra and the father of Śrī Kṛshṇa. The Brahma Purāṇa names her fourth among his fourteen wives.
Among the wives of Vasudeva
The Sūta tells the munis the line of Kroshṭu and of the Vṛshṇis. Śūra‘s eldest son was Vasudeva, called Ānakadundubhi because the ānaka and dundubhi drums sounded in the sky at his birth. Vasudeva had fourteen wives, born in the Puru vaṃśa: Pauravī, Rohiṇī, Madirā, Ādi, Vaiśākhī, Bhadrā, Sunāmnī, Sahadevā, Śāntidevā, Śrīdevī, Devarakshitā, Vṛkadevī, Upadevī and Devakī, and two attendants, Sutanu and Baḍabā. Ādi is the fourth of the fourteen.
