Saṅkarshaṇa (Vyūha)

Saṅkarshaṇa, “the one who draws together”

Bhagavān Saṅkarshaṇa heads the vyūhas of Bhagavān Vishṇu. In the Madhyama Parva, Sūta tells the brāhmaṇas that together with Bhagavān Vishṇu one offers arcanā with dhūpa, dīpa and other upacāras to the vyūhas beginning with Saṅkarshaṇa and the śaktis beginning with Vimalā, and prays.

Bṛhaspati tells Devendra of Ajagara, a brāhmaṇa of Naimishāraṇya, expert in Vedānta and full of jñāna. After Bhagavān Śiva had given him jñāna, he performed ārādhanā of Saṅkarshaṇa and pleased him with many stutis. Bhagavān Saṅkarshaṇa granted him sāyujya, and at the end he became a divine serpent ornament, thousand-hooded and fair, his place in the Kshīrasāgara.
