Iḍā, Wife of the Aśvins

Iḍā

Iḍā Devī is the śakti (power) of Soma and the elder wife of the Aśvinīkumāras. The Pratisarga Parva of the Bhavishya Purāṇa gives this in the words of Bhagavān Sūrya to the two Aśvinīkumāras, within Bṛhaspati‘s account.

Bhagavān Sūrya’s words

Bhagavān Sūrya said to them that Iḍā Devī, the śakti of Soma, would be their elder wife and Piṅgalā, the śakti of Sūrya, their younger wife. Of the two, one would be Iḍāpati and the other Piṅgalāpati.

He said too that when Devī Tapantī stands in the janma-rāśi (the birth sign) she causes burning, and that Iḍā and Piṅgalā then give śānti (peace).
