Akalmāsha (Deva of the Tāmasa Manvantara)

Akalmāsha · a-kalmāsha, “the stainless one”

Akalmāsha is one of the beings named for the Tāmasa manvantara, the age of Tāmasa, the fourth Manu. Lomaharshaṇa gives his name in the Brahma Purāṇa when he tells the munis of the manvantaras, their saptarshis and their deva-gaṇas (hosts of devas).

In the Tāmasa manvantara

The munis asked how many Manus there are and what happened in their times. Lomaharshaṇa answered that the account of the manvantaras could not be told in full even in a thousand years, and he told it in brief: for each manvantara, its saptarshis (seven ṛshis), its line of sons and its hosts of devas.

In the Tāmasa manvantara the saptarshis were Kāvya, Pṛthu, Agni, Jahnu, Dhātā, Kapīvān and Akapīvān. Then he said, “Here are the deva-gaṇas”, and named Dyuti, Tapasya, Sutava, Tapobhūta, Sanātana, Taporati, Akalmāsha, Tanvī and Parantava: “these are the ten told by Vāyu“. Nine names are printed for the ten.
