Bhāratīśa

Bhāratīśa · bhāratī-īśa, “the master of Bhāratī”

The Pratisarga Parva of the Bhavishya Purāṇa tells of Bhāratīśa, also named Bhāratī, as the knower of the kalās who became a śishya of Śaṅkarācārya. In Bṛhaspati‘s account it tells that the Mahārudra who destroyed the dānava Hirbu was born on the Himālaya as the son of Sādhakarmā and later became famous under this name. He conquered the assembly of scholars, came to Kāśī and became a śishya of Śaṅkarācārya.
