The Pratisarga Parva of the Bhavishya Purāṇa tells that when Kali remembered Śrī Hari, a famous devatā named Gautama was born and spread the Bauddha dharma. His line ran through Śākyamuni and Śuddhodana to Śakyasiṃha, in whose reign nearly everyone became Bauddha, and on to Buddhasiṃha, Candragupta, Bindusāra and Aśoka.
Sūta tells this to Śaunaka and the ṛshis, after they have heard the line of the kings of Magadha down to Mahānanda.

The Purāṇa tells that at this time Kali remembered Śrī Hari. Then a famous devatā named Gautama was born from Kāśyapa. He refined the Bauddha dharma, spread it in Paṭṭaṇa nagara, and ruled for ten years.

Śakyasiṃha
The Purāṇa tells that Śakyasiṃha ruled in Śatādri after two thousand years of the Kali Yuga had passed. In the first pāda of Kali he destroyed the path of the Veda, and he ruled for sixty years. At that time nearly everyone became Bauddha. When he, a form of Vishṇu (vishṇusvarūpa), became king, the subjects became as the king was, for the course of dharma in the world follows the śakti of Vishṇu.
Candragupta
The Purāṇa tells that Candragupta married the daughter of Sulūba, king of the Pārasī land, and spread the Bauddha dharma connected with the Yavanas. He ruled for sixty years. His son Bindusāra ruled as long as his father, and Bindusāra’s son was Aśoka.
The phalaśruti
Those people who take refuge in Śrī Hari, the master of māyā (māyāpati), become sharers in moksha by the power of his kṛpā (grace).
