Adhyātma Rāmāyaṇa
Adhyātma Rāmāyaṇa · adhyātma-rāmāyaṇa, “the Rāmāyaṇa of the inner self”
The Adhyātma Rāmāyaṇa is a Rāmāyaṇa named in the Pratisarga Parva of the Bhavishya Purāṇa.
The Pratisarga Parva of the Bhavishya Purāṇa tells that Rāmaśarmā, a learned brāhmaṇa of Kāśī devoted to the pūjā of Śaṅkara, kept vigil at Avimukteśvara on Śivarātri and did japa of the Śiva Pañcākshara. Bhagavān Śiva told him to ask a vara, and he asked that the devatā on whom Bhagavān Śiva meditates in samādhi should dwell in his heart. Bhagavān Śiva smiled and named Bhagavān Rāma, Lakshmaṇa and Balabhadra. Rāmaśarmā became an upāsaka of Bhagavān Rāma. When Kṛshṇacaitanya was twelve years old, Rāmaśarmā came to him and became his disciple, and at Kṛshṇacaitanya’s command he composed the Adhyātma Rāmāyaṇa.
