Indrasenā
Indrasenā was the queen of King Narishyanta of the Solar dynasty. She was the mother of Dama. When Narishyanta was slain by the warrior Vapushmān, she entered his funeral pyre and performed satī.
Queen of Narishyanta
Indrasenā was the devoted queen of Narishyanta, the son of the great Marutta of the Solar dynasty. She was the mother of Dama. The Mārkaṇḍeya Purāṇa keeps her name in its account of the royal lines of the Vaivasvata Manvantara (the age of the Manu named Vaivasvata), which follows the Solar dynasty.
Satī
Narishyanta was slain in battle by the warrior Vapushmān. Indrasenā chose not to live on after her husband. She entered his funeral pyre and performed satī, the act in which a wife goes with her husband through death. The Purāṇa records this as an act of supreme devotion (pativratā devotion, the devotion of a wife faithful to her husband). It was the last act of a life given fully to her husband and to their shared dharma.
