Añjanaparvan
Añjanaparvan was the son of Ghaṭotkaca and a warrior in the Pāṇḍava army at Kurukshetra. The Mahābhārata names him among the notable fighters on the Pāṇḍava side. He is described as yuddhavijñāna-paṇḍita (skilled in the science of warfare) and as mahābāhu (great-armed).
Family
Añjanaparvan was the son of Ghaṭotkaca. Ghaṭotkaca was the mighty son of Bhīmasena and Hiḍimbā, born as a rākshasa. Like his father, Añjanaparvan had great physical strength.
Named by Arjuna
In the Udyoga Parva, each side tells how long it would take to destroy the enemy army. There Arjuna lists the Pāṇḍava allies for Yudhishṭhira. He names Añjanaparvan together with his father Ghaṭotkaca, as a great strength of the Pāṇḍava forces. Arjuna calls Añjanaparvan a paṇḍita (expert) in the science of warfare and a mahābāhu. Mahābāhu is the usual word for a warrior of exceptional strength.
In the Droṇa Parva
The opening of the Droṇa Parva lists him with his father Ghaṭotkaca among the chief heroes of the Pāṇḍava side in those days of battle. He stands there with Śrī Kṛshṇa, Arjuna, Yudhishṭhira, Bhīmasena, Sātyaki, the Upapāṇḍavas, Abhimanyu, Śikhaṇḍī, Dhṛshṭadyumna, Drupada and Virāṭa. He is also named as a fighter in the night battle of the fourteenth day, the night in which Ghaṭotkaca met his death.
Death
Aśvatthāmā killed Añjanaparvan. This is told in Chapter 156 of the Droṇa Parva. He died in the fighting around the great night battle, as one of the Pāṇḍava warriors lost when Aśvatthāmā pressed his attack.
