Vṛddhakshatra (son of Devakshatra)
Vṛddhakshatra
Vṛddhakshatra is a king of the Yadu line, in the branch that came down from Vidarbha, the son of Jyāmagha. He is the son of Devakshatra and the father of Madhu, who founded the line of the Madhus. He is not the father of Jayadratha, nor the Vṛddhakshatra of the Paurava line.
The Brahma Purāṇa gives his descent: Vidarbha’s son was Bhīma; his son Kunti; his son Dhṛshṭa, bold in battle. Of Dhṛshṭa’s three sons, Avanta, Daśārha and Vishahara, the line runs through Daśārha: his son Vyoma, then Jīmūta, Vikṛti, Bhīmaratha, Navaratha, Daśaratha and Śakuni. Śakuni’s son was Karambha; Karambha’s son was Devarāta; his son was Devakshatra; and his son was Vṛddhakshatra.
Vṛddhakshatra’s son was Madhu, like a son of the devas and sweet of speech, the founder of the line of the Madhus. Madhu’s sons were Purudvant, by Vaidarbhī, and Sattvant, by Aikshvākī, who gave the Sātvatas their name.
