Devarāta is a king of the Yadu line that comes down from Kroshṭu through Vidarbha. He was the son of Karambha and the father of Devakshatra, and from his line came Madhu, who founded the line of the Madhus, and Sattvant, who gave the Sātvatas their name. He is a different person from Devarāta, the name of Śunaḥśepa as the son of Viśvāmitra.
His line
Vidarbha‘s son was Bhīma; his son was Kunti; his son was Dhṛshṭa, bold in battle. Of Dhṛshṭa’s three sons, Daśārha’s son was Vyoma; then came Jīmūta, Vikṛti, Bhīmaratha and Navaratha. Navaratha’s son was Daśaratha, and his son Śakuni. Śakuni’s son was Karambha, and Karambha’s son was Devarāta.
Devarāta’s son was Devakshatra, and Devakshatra’s son was Vṛddhakshatra. Vṛddhakshatra’s son was Madhu, like a son of the devas, sweet of speech, the founder of the line of the Madhus. Madhu begot Purudvant in Vaidarbhī, and in Aikshvākī he begot Sattvant, endowed with every virtue, who increased the fame of the Sātvatas.
