Muñja
Muñja
Grammar: masculine noun.
Meaning: a grass of which the brāhmaṇa’s girdle is made.
In the scriptures: Sumantu tells Śatānīka that for the brāhmaṇa the girdle is mauñjī, made beautifully in three rows, and the text’s bracket says it is made of muñja darbha. Where muñja darbha is not to be had, the girdle may be made of kuśa darbha, of the oshadhi called aśmantaka, or of the grass called balvaja, with one knot, or three, or five.
