Maṇḍalin

Maṇḍalin · maṇḍalin, “a snake of the maṇḍalin division”

Grammar: masculine noun.

Meaning: one of the four divisions of snakes.

In the scriptures: Kaśyapa Prajāpati divided sarpas into four: darvīkaras, maṇḍalins, rājilas and vyantaras. The poison of the maṇḍalins is pitta, and their blood is red, thick and abundant. Of the twenty-eight jātis seen on the earth, there are roughly seven maṇḍalins (Bhavishya Purāṇa, Brahma Parva, Chapter 36).
